Kayaking

This blog is about my efforts to live aboard a cruising sailboat.  Which is something I’d thought about ever since 1983. This desire developed after a few days sailing around the Apostle Islands with some whitewater paddling friends on the ‘Sheila Yates’, a 50’ wooden schooner gaff and square rigged.  Whitewater paddling and eventually kayak touring, popularly called ‘Sea Kayaking’ are a big part of my history.  I even gave up construction work to start and operate a kayak touring retail business in Grand Marais, Minnesota, which I stubbornly operated for 18 years.  I’ve great memories of my paddling past, including 2 trips down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, lots of paddling out east and out west plus whitewater trips to Chiapas Mexico, Guatemala and Belize.  I have no digital media from back in those days to share, but after ending my kayak touring business in 2009 I did engage in 2 major kayak touring expeditions.  The first was paddling the Inside Passage of British Columbia and SE Alaska in 2010 detailed with slideshows below.  The second was a Circumnavigation of Lake Superior in 2012 which I blogged here.  Kayaking around Lake Superior

Back in 2010 I joined friends and former employees Dave and Amy on the first 'leg' of their Wilderness Classroom Project, The North American Odyssey.  The 3 of us along with another friend, Clayton kayaked the Inside Passage from Bellingham, Washington to Skagway, Alaska.  I had not yet started using blogger to blog my travels but did create 9 Picasa Web Albums.  I've embedded the 9 Picasa Albums below.  The first one 'The Start' is set to play automatically.  The remaining 8 album slideshows start as you click the arrow.
NOTE: If using Apple iOS the slideshow, which uses Flash won't show.  You can download the Puffin web-browser App for your Apple mobile device.  Flash works in iOS Puffin!!
